I'm Sherrie - welcome to Nova Scotia Kitchens! The first week of each month, I share a recipe, audio, and pictures from a visit to a real Nova Scotia Kitchen.
The idea for this project grew out of some of my many loves - for my beautiful home province, delicious food, sharing recipes, visiting with friends, and seeing how they cook everyday food for themselves and their families. Everyone has a favourite family recipe that they're eager to share, and you'd be hard pressed to find a friendlier group of people to visit with than people here in Nova Scotia.
Since eating is one of the most basic and universal needs we have, and it has been for millenia, I don't believe that recipes and techniques need to be bestowed upon us by experts in order to be delicious. I am fortunate enough to have been welcomed into many wonderful, open-hearted, friendly Nova Scotia kitchens, and this project is a little way to share with you something wonderful from each of them.
The name of the site is a nod to Out of Old Nova Scotia Kitchens, a culinary classic in this province, written by Marie Nightingale and published in 1970.
I hope you enjoy meeting some of my friends, old and new, and spending some time in the kitchen with us with a new episode being released during the first week of each month. Come on in!
Nova Scotia is a stunningly gorgeous province on Canada's east coast, one of the Maritime provinces. It has rugged coastlines, a rich seafaring history, and the friendliest people you could ever hope to meet. Nowhere in Nova Scotia is farther than 67km from the ocean, and there is nothing that compares to a deep breath of salty sea air carried on a coastal breeze.
